Cricket South Africa announced the Proteas squad that will be touring West Indies for 3 ODI and 3 T20 matches. The tour commences from 11–23 June. All matches will be played in Barbados at the WS Oval
Proteas all-rounder Marizanne Kapp makes a return to the squad after missing the tri-series in Sri Lanka.
“I’m very excited to have Marizanne, Sekhukhune and Ayanda (Hlubi) back in the mix. Hopefully, they will come with some new energy, and they’ll be motivated to do well for the team,” said Mandla Mashimbyi.
The Proteas seam attack will be bolstered by Tumi Sekhukhune and speedster Ayanda Hlubi. The duo will replace leg-spinner Seshnie Naidu and top-order batter Lara Goodall.
Goodall will find herself unlucky being dropped as she performed well in the second match of the tri-series, but unfortunately, that was not enough to convince the selection team to keep her in the squad.
Among the three young players that were part of the tri-series, Naidu is the only one that did not make the cut. Miané Smit retained her spot because she had one good game with the bat and was economical with the ball in Sri Lanka.
“Sri Lanka was tough, but we took a lot of positives out of that, and whatever gaps we’ve picked up, we want to make sure that we brush up on them. I’m looking forward to that, and the players have been working to make sure that they prepare well for the Caribbean tour,” the Proteas head coach continued.
Annerie Dercksen’s batting was one of the highlights of the tournament in Sri Lanka. Chloe Tryon returned to form with both bat and ball, which would please Mashimbyi. Brits scored a well-played 109 in the first match against a strong Indian attack.
Nonkululeko Mlaba and Masabata Klaas had a good tournament in Sri Lanka with the ball. Nadine de Klerk will be hoping she gets to continue bowling more even with Kapp back in the squad.
The squad will leave for the Caribbean on 02 June 2025 from OR Tambo International Airport.
